Product Information |
Any
field trip to a pet store or internet surfing can leave
one overwhelmed with the multitude of toys, treats and equipment
available for
dogs. At North Star, based on our years of experience,
we have come to rely on a tried and true treasure trove of such
products
to help in the raising, training and continued well being
of our service pups and dogs.
|
| The
following are an array of products we recommend for consideration
due to their
versatility, quality and effectiveness. While many of these
products can be found in most pet stores, some are a bit
harder to find.
Should you need any help in locating a vendor for the products
you seek, please feel free to email North Star Executive Director
Patty Dobbs Gross. |

A few of the toys,
treats and training equipment we recommend.
(clockwise from top left):
Liver Biscotti, Large Biscuit Ball, Planet Pet Ship, bully
sticks, collar and Euroleash. |
TOYS:
Interactive toys are those that involve the dog's mental ability to figure out
the toy. There are a variety of ways these toys can be incorporated into
play. Premiere manufactures and sells many of these including biscuit balls,
kongs, buster cubes, goodie bones, planet pet ships, and more recently, a
line of Busy Buddy Toys including Twist'n'Treat, The Groove Thing, The Waggle
and The Chuckle.
CHEWS:
We search for chemical and preservative free chews that engage the dog and are
safe. We have found bully sticks and chewtastics bones to be our best picks.
EQUIPMENT:
Again from Premiere, we like the martingale collars and if appropriate, Gentle
Leaders for strong pullers. Another very useful tool is the euroleash, aka 6-way
leash, which is a wonderful adaptive tool that works great for both pet and service
dogs. For an override option for adults working with children and their dogs,
we like the foot long tab that can clip on to one of the rings on a euroleash
to provide support where needed.
TREATS:
We prefer chemical and preservative free high end treats. As you learn your dog's
preferences for soft versus crunchy, you'll best determine the diverse array
of treats available commercially or recipes for homemade treats. We like Liver
Biscotti, Zuke's Treats, and Flint River regular, peanut butter or lamb treats. |
