North Star's Newsletter
April 2009
Since their birth we have been giving all eleven puppies daily individual attention; most of this is simple (but important!) cuddling, but some of the structured activities we do with the puppies are designed (and supported via research) to help the pups to tolerate stress and human handling and interactions from a very young age.
Already the puppies relax completely in human arms, and seek out our attention when we wander by their whelping box (strategically placed at the entry of our kitchen...with four children, there is always someone going by to pet the puppies that happen to be sitting...all the pups will snap to a sit by six weeks when they hear our footsteps!)
|
Housebreaking/cratetraining has also begun, even at this tender age, the pups now wake from their many naps to travel to the paper across the whelping box to relieve themselves (this is just the first step in housebreaking, and my husband Ron is very proud of the whelping box he designed, where form follows function!)
Six of these puppies will be partnered with children around the country who face challenges to help them to reach their social, emotional or educational goals...any help you can give us to support these placements in progress would be greatly appreciated and also considered tax deductible, as we are a not for profit organization (EIN # 06-1589586; Conn. Charities Registration number 12811). PayPal donations can be made via our website at www.NorthStarDogs.com. (Checks or money orders can be made out to North Star Foundation and sent to my attention at 20 Deerfield Lane, Storrs, CT 06268.)
Your donation is invaluable, for we couldn't do the work we do without the help of volunteers and donations to support the partnership between the children we serve and the North Star dogs we breed, socialize and train for them.
There is much work to be done to train and socialize these pups to work with their children; but this is a journey that is every bit as important as the destination...
Please sign up on our homepage to receive our free electronic newsletter if you'd like to follow our puppies' progress!
