Piper is a North Star Golden born in September 2002. She has been partnered with her family since May 2003. Kristin and Emily both have severe physical and cognitive disabilities and Ryan is their typically developed brother. Piper plays a role for the whole family -- Ryan has learned how to train Piper to turn toys on and off for his sisters, make herself a tactile stimulant for them, and provide endless support, comfort and companionship. She tucks Kristin into bed each night, and helps Emily be more aware of her surroundings. She is a full fledged member of the family and is greatly loved.
