Blue is a White Standard Poodle donated to North Star by Dom and Carol Passarelli of "Ollie's Angels". Blue will be paired with Sami, a young girl with epilepsy, as a seizure alert/support dog in June, 2004. |

Charlie was paired with a girl named Olivia when she lost her remission to cancer. As a dog selected and trained specifically to help mitigate her challenge, Charlie has public access and is able to accompany Olivia anywhere she must go throughout this troubling time. He is a great comfort to Olivia, as well as to her sister Anna. |

A female Labrador Retriever named Lexi was acquired from Guiding Eyes for the Blind to work with a young boy named John, who is on the autism spectrum. He has been in training for the past 6 months and was recently placed with John to help him to learn to develop empathy and responsibility. Lexi also helps John to socialize and maintain his emotional equilibrium in times of stress. |

Max
is a lovely golden retriever who was purchased from a high quality breeder
in Minneapolis named Kelli Johnson to work with a young boy in Maryland named
Steven. Max will help Steven to deal with his autism and severe separation
anxiety. He is currently in training under the supervision of North Star's Director, Rachel Friedman, and will soon be flying out with Rachel to visit Steven. |

Meika
was bred in North Star's in-house breeding program to work with a young
girl named Jessie, who has learning disabilities. Meika has accompanied Jessie
to her physical therapy sessions to help to motivate her through her often
rigorous exercises that are meant to strengthen her low muscle tone. |

Piper was also bred in North Star's breeding program; she is now working with two young physically and mentally disabled girls named Emily and Kristin. She helps to calm them during moments of stress or transitions, and also help the girl's older brother, Ryan, to care for his sisters. |

Rusty
is Charlie's brother, and he is paired with a young boy named Christian,
who is on the autism spectrum. Rusty helps Christian to focus and stay on
task; he also interrupts his perseverative behavior by inviting him to play
interactive games such as fetch or follow the leader. |

Shiloh
is Piper's sister, and she is now working with a young boy named Caleb, who
is on the autism spectrum. Shiloh will be attending school with Caleb in
September to help assist with the social as well as emotional aspects of
mainstreaming. A well behaved dog is a kid magnet, and helps to structure
social interactions. |

Tanner
is a 3 month old puppy in training for two young brothers on the autism
spectrum who live in Vermont. He is being trained by a professional
dog handler named Amy Gamache; his training plan will be created
by North Star with the help of Nancy Lyon and Dee Ganley, two search and
rescue
experts who have already helped us to train a North Star dog named Nomar. For
now, Tanner is developing beginning search and rescue skills with Amy
and her husband Tim by playing such games as hide & seek with their two
preschool children. |

Rita is a North Star dog that is paired with a young boy named Mitchell, who has autism. Mitchell's twin sister Margo and younger brother Colin were very much included in this placement, as the three children are very close. |

Ruby is an Australian Shepherd that was trained to assist a young girl named Francesca who has spinal bifida. Ruby helps to ease Francesca's anxiety by being available to her at all times. She is also trained to retrieve dropped objects and play interactive games with Francesca and her brothers. |
